Help them choose a poem they enjoy
The most important thing is that your child connects with the poem. Encourage them to explore the school’s poetry collection and choose one they love—or at least one they’re curious about.

They can choose:

A poem from the school collection

A different poem of their own choice

A poem they’ve written themselves

A poem in English or in their home language

A little challenge is a good thing, so it’s worth encouraging them not to pick the very shortest or easiest poem straight away.

If you’d like to explore poems together, these websites are great places to browse:

Poetry by Heart (Click on 'Poetry Collections')

The Poetry Archive

The Children's Poetry Archive

Poetry Foundation

🧠 2. Support them to learn it by heart
There’s no shortcut to learning a poem—it takes time and repetition. Little and often works best.

You can help by encouraging them to:

Read the poem aloud regularly

Say it to different people (or pets!)

Write out lines and stick them somewhere visible, like the fridge

Draw pictures to help remember different parts

Think of the poem as a series of scenes or “rooms” to move through

Recite lines while walking, tidying up, or in the shower

Testing each other can really help, and gentle encouragement goes a long way. Repetition is the key—and confidence will build with practice.

🎤 3. Encourage confident sharing aloud
Once your child knows the poem, it’s time to think about how to perform it.

Useful reminders:

Slow right down—most people rush when they recite poetry

Use punctuation and line breaks as clues for pauses

Take a moment before starting so the audience is ready to listen

Let the words do the work—there’s no need for lots of extra actions

Pause briefly at the very end to let the final words sink in

Practising in different places can really help: at home, on the way to school, or in the park. Performing to a friend or family member (in person, on the phone, or by video call) is great preparation. Some children also enjoy recording a video—but please remember that parental permission is always needed before sharing anything.

Christmas Mini-Concert Showcases Musical Talent

https://pinnerpark.harrow.sch.uk/news-blog/christmas-mini-concert-showcases-musical-talent

https://pinnerpark.harrow.sch.uk/news-blog/christmas-mini-concert-showcases-musical-talent#comments

Uncategorized

Today, parents were treated to a wonderful Christmas Mini-Concert, celebrating the hard work, commitment and talent of our young musicians. The concert featured performances from our school band, recorder ensemble and Year 6 choir, who performed with confidence and pride. The programme was impressively wide-ranging, reflecting both technical skill and creativity. Pieces included Beethoven, My Heart Will Go On, festive favourites, the contemporary hit Sigma Boy, and a fantastic original composition written by the children themselves, Forest at Night.
It was a joy to see the children supporting one another, listening carefully, and performing with such maturity. Opportunities like this not only develop musical skills but also build confidence, teamwork and a sense of achievement.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Miss Atkins, our Music Lead, whose passion for music and high expectations ensure that children across the school have the opportunity to experience, perform and create music of a very high standard. Families, staff, and volunteers came together for an unforgettable evening that truly showcased the spirit of our school community.

From the moment the gates opened, the site was buzzing with activity. Children enjoyed a huge range of stalls and games, while families sampled delicious treats from our food trucks and the Pinner Park Café. Santa Story Time proved to be magical, with little faces lighting up at each visit. The funfair rides added an extra thrill, and the glow shop brought even more sparkle to the night.

One of the highlights of the evening was, of course, the laser shows, which lit up the playground in two stunning performances. The atmosphere was electric, and it was wonderful to see so many families gathered together, enjoying the moment.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible efforts of our PTA, our fantastic team of volunteers, and the many staff members who supported the event behind the scenes. Their hard work, creativity and enthusiasm ensured that the festival ran smoothly and safely from start to finish.

We are also deeply grateful to our generous sponsors – gold, silver and bronze – whose support helped us to offer such a wide range of activities and experiences for families to enjoy.

Most of all, thank you to our wonderful children and families for joining us, supporting the stalls, and bringing such warmth and joy to the evening. The sessions helped children understand how to keep themselves safe online, who they can talk to if they are worried, and why it’s so important to make positive choices when using the internet.

Our staff team also had dedicated training, ensuring that we continue to embed consistent messages across the school and remain alert to the safeguarding issues children may encounter online.

These sessions have been both impactful and important, strengthening our shared commitment – as a school and community – to protect children in the digital world.

We’ll be sharing resources with families to help continue the conversation at home, along with a link to the recording of the parent briefing for anyone who was unable to attend.

👉 Find out more about the Breck's story and the Breck Foundation here: https://www.breckfoundation.org

Parent Information Pack.pdf

File Size:

6436 kb

File Type:

pdf

Download File

Save the Date - Winter Glow Festival

https://pinnerpark.harrow.sch.uk/news-blog/save-the-date-winter-glow-festival

https://pinnerpark.harrow.sch.uk/news-blog/save-the-date-winter-glow-festival#comments

Uncategorized

We’re thrilled to announce that our Winter Glow Festival will take place on the evening of Friday 28 November – and it promises to be our most exciting event yet! This year’s festival will be packed with fun for the whole family, including:Delicious food and drinksStalls, games and craftsFairground ridesRaffles and tombolasAnd not one, but two spectacular laser shows! It’s set to be an unforgettable evening for our school and community.Tickets will go on sale from [...]

We’re thrilled to announce that our Winter Glow Festival will take place on the evening of Friday 28 November – and it promises to be our most exciting event yet!

This year’s festival will be packed with fun for the whole family, including:

Delicious food and drinks

Stalls, games and crafts

Fairground rides

Raffles and tombolas

And not one, but two spectacular laser shows!

It’s set to be an unforgettable evening for our school and community.

Tickets will go on sale from Friday 17 October, so watch this space for more details on how to secure yours.

Mark your calendars – you won’t want to miss it!
