This week, as part of their geography unit on the local area, our Year 1 children took part in a fun and fascinating walk around the locality. The experience was designed to deepen their understanding of the community around them while teaching essential life skills. Before setting off, the children were carefully briefed on safety, including the importance of staying together and being mindful of their surroundings. A highlight of the walk was learning how to cross the road safely using a zebra crossing. Each child had the chance to observe, practise, and discuss the importance of road safety—a valuable lesson for their day-to-day lives. The walk also took the children through Headstone Manor Park, where they explored safe pathways and discovered some of the natural beauty within walking distance of the school. Along the way, they learned how to follow maps, gaining practical skills in navigation while identifying key landmarks and discussing their significance. This enriching outing combined hands-on learning with real-world applications, helping the children understand more about the geography of their local area. It also provided an excellent opportunity to connect classroom knowledge with their everyday surroundings. We’re proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children were throughout the walk, and we look forward to seeing how these experiences shape their learning and understanding of the world around them.

Flu can be very unpleasant for children and can sometimes cause serious problems, such as pneumonia. Children can catch and spread flu easily. Vaccinating them also helps protect others who are at higher risk of getting seriously ill from flu, such as babies and older people. The School Immunisation team will be coming into Pinner Park to deliver the flu vaccine on 11 November and 5 December. The team will need your consent to give the vaccine and we ask that every parent completes the consent form at the following link: https://nwl.schoolvaccination.uk/flu/2024/harrow Please complete the form as soon as possible. The portal will close 48 hours before the Flu session. You can consent for either the Flu nasal spray or the non-gelatine IM Flu vaccine. Please note that children cannot receive this vaccination with their GP unless they are clinically vulnerable. Further information about the vaccine can be found in the leaflet below and in the various links on the consent form.
