Pinner Park Pupils Take Action on Air Pollution and Active Travel

Eight pupils from Years 5 and 6 have embarked on an exciting project to improve air quality awareness and promote active travel within our school community. 

The workshops were designed to inspire our students and equip them with the knowledge and skills to make a positive impact. Led by experts, the sessions explored:

• Understanding Air Pollution: Pupils learned about air quality, its effects on health, and the historical context of air pollution in London. Activities included measuring heart rates during exercise to connect physical activity to health benefits.
• Creating an Active Travel Map: Pupils investigated particulate matter around the school and used mapping tools to design a bespoke active travel map highlighting realistic walk and cycle zones. This resource will support our school community in adopting more sustainable travel habits.
• Promoting Their Findings: The children planned a compelling assembly to share their learnings with peers and staff. They presented the health benefits of active travel and unveiled the new map to inspire the whole school to make healthier, greener choices.

As a result of this project, Pinner Park Primary School will receive a professionally designed active travel map and leaflet, as well as a vinyl banner for display. 

A huge well done to our Year 5 and 6 pupils for their enthusiasm and leadership throughout this initiative. This project demonstrates the power of young people in driving positive change for the environment and their community. We look forward to seeing their hard work make a lasting impact.
