At Pinner Park Primary School our history curriculum is designed to ignite children’s curiosity about the past through carefully planned units that take into account the rich history of our school community. Our curriculum encourages children to think critically about how our local area, Britain and the wider world has developed over time so that they can understand how the past has influenced society today. By the time children leave Pinner Park we want our leaners to have secure knowledge about the history of significant events, people and places and a coherent understanding of historical concepts and historical enquiry.
We believe that a good historian should be able to understand a wide range of historical concepts such as; continuity and change, cause and consequence, interpretation, similarity and difference, looking at the significance of people/events and using evidence to further develop their historical knowledge and thinking.
Our history curriculum covers a wide range of topics that are of the most relevance and interest to the children at Pinner Park.

How we teach History
We teach history through an enquiry based approach. As children build their knowledge within their studies they will have ongoing opportunities for historical enquiry. Children must understand the methods of historical enquiry including how evidence is gathered and used to make historical claims and how to ask perceptive questions. Skills that underpin historical enquiry such as, thinking critically, evaluating and examining arguments allows for further opportunity for children to apply their knowledge meaningfully. To support the children with their enquiries, we make links to modern day scenarios that are relevant to our children, for example by making links to the UNCRC articles. Within the classroom, history lessons are enriched with a range of different resources and artefacts. Lessons are further enriched outside of the classroom with a range of enhanced learning opportunities such as trips to the RAF museum, and 'History off the page' visitors.
