Multiplication Tables at Pinner Park
Multiplication Tables (or 'Times Tables') are a fundamental basic of learning in mathematics.
Children need to learn their multiplication tables in primary school because they are essential when learning many new maths skills and concepts from the national curriculum, such as fractions, decimals, factors etc.
Not knowing your times tables puts additional strain on your working memory when tackling such new concepts in maths. This will hinder the long term transition of the new facts to the long term memory.
The goal is instant recall - fluency. We want all our Pinner Park children to be able to instantly recall all the multiplication facts from 1 x1 to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4.

The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)
The Multiplication Tables Check for Year 4 was due to roll out in 2020 after a 2019 pilot. However due to the school closures during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, the first year of the official roll out was cancelled.
The Multiplication Tables Check 2021 will take place at Pinner Park but it is an optional test for schools to participate in or not. It is likely that 2022 will be the first actual compulsory Multiplication Tables Check for schools.
The check is a simple digital assessment where children are asked to give the answer to 25 multiplication questions. The children have 6 seconds to answer each question, with a 3 second pause between each question.

Times Tables Rockstars
Times Tables Rock Stars is a scheme, supported by web and mobile apps, which promotes the learning of times table facts. We introduce TTRS in Year 2 and it runs through to the end of Year 6. Click here for our web page dedicated to TT Rockstars.
