![]() We know how vital it is to have trusted information to turn to when children are asking questions about what is happening in Ukraine. As a school, we subscribe to 'First News' , the award-winning newspaper for children. Their journalists have written a 6 page Ukraine special in this week’s First News, that will provide children with an age-appropriate background on what’s happening, answer their most urgent questions and showcase how people are finding ways to help. First News are giving free access to this week's newspaper, which can be accessed at the link below. ![]()
This morning, some of our children took part in the RSPB's Big Schools' Birdwatch. We'll be sending the RSPB our results and it will help them to see how birds are faring in school grounds right around the UK. Download the poetry collection here: Click here to download Poetry by Heart - School wide celebration of poetry for World Book Day We're celebrating poetry for World Book Day and we're going to do this by having a school wide Poetry event! Each child is asked to choose a poem, learn it by heart, and perform it out loud! Children will perform their poem in class after half term. Two children from each class will be selected to go through to a year group 'semi-final'. From that group, two children will be selected to go through to the 'Grand Final' on World Book Day (3 March). Here are the key dates: Now! Last week's homework task for all children was to learn a poem by heart. We have created a collection of poems for the children to choose from, but children can also select their own choice of poem if they wish. The homework task will be for two weeks - the last week of the half term and half term week itself. To view the poetry collection click here. There are a good range of poems - something for all ages and abilities. We're asking the children to be aspirational and ambitious in their choice! Monday 21 - Friday 25 February During the week, each child will perform to their class. Teachers will select two children to go through to the year group final. Monday 28 Feb - Wednesday 2 March Year Group finals take place. Two children will be chosen to go through to 'Grand Final'. Thursday 3 March - World Book Day Grand Final! ![]() We love celebrating birthdays at Pinner Park. Birthdays are such fun – marking another year that is past, and a reminder that we are ‘growing up’! Schools have a number of ways of marking children’s birthdays and I know that it is traditional in some schools for children to bring sweets, cakes, gifts or party-bags to share with others (though this is no longer the case for most schools). For a number of reasons, we do not want sweets, cakes, gifts or party bags being brought in to school, and we want to relieve parents of that particular pressure when you have lots of other birthday things to think of! We are very happy for children to wear their birthday badge, and we will, of course, wish a very ‘happy birthday’ on that special occasion. If you would like to mark your child’s birthday in another way, we suggest that you consider donating a book to the school or class library. You can write a message in the book to mark the special event. We have a special 'book plate' to stick inside a birthday book which you can download here: ![]()
From January 2022, we are undertaking a one-term trial of children coming to school in their PE kit on the days when they have PE (for all year groups). Children will not need their uniform in school on those days.
In order to make this work, we want to trial the following.
Class PE Days Due to a rising number of Covid cases nationally, locally, and within school, we had to make some last minute changes to our planned performance for our Year 3 and Year 4 children. We recorded our great singing, within our class bubbles, and the songs are shared in the video below. Our Health Walks are back! We have not had these for quite some time due to the pandemic but they are back! Join other parents for a Tuesday morning stroll. They're sociable, informal and healthy!
Further details below. If you're joining in, please complete a registration form (click here to download the form). |
