Below is the text of a letter sent to parent by SchoolPing on 1 January:
Dear Parents and Carers, Happy New Year! I hope everyone is having a restful break. I am writing to update you about Harrow primary schools, and Pinner Park, following the statement made on Wednesday 30 December by the Secretary of State for Education. Harrow remains on the list of local authorities wherein primary schools are asked to remain open to pupils despite the high rates of infection in the borough. As you may be aware, this has caused some anxiety and confusion for many school leaders, local politicians, council officers, and others. Given our local data, it is difficult to understand the reasoning behind the Government’s decision not to include Harrow on the list, especially given that all our neighbouring authorities are affected by the new regulations. The data would seem to clearly demonstrate the need for Harrow primary schools to be treated the same as all our surrounding Local Authorities. Harrow Council has now written to all primary headteachers to advise that, based on the available public health data, that primary schools in Harrow should move to online learning for the majority of children next week in the same way as those schools in surrounding Boroughs. You can read the letter to headteachers, and further information, here:
These are challenging times, and we have had to make many difficult decisions over the last year. However, we have always sought to make decisive, swift choices when we feel these are in the best interests of our children, families, local community and staff. For this reason, and taking into account all the information provided today to headteachers, we have taken the decision to follow Harrow Council’s advice and move to online learning for the majority of pupils from Tuesday (Monday is an INSET day). We expect this to be in place for at least two weeks, but we will review this decision regularly in the light of updated guidance and information. We will endeavour to communicate with you often. We will remain open for vulnerable students and to the children of critical workers (further information to follow). I will provide further information about the online learning (for the majority of pupils) and our provision for vulnerable students and to the children of critical workers over the weekend. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us through the office email. Thank you for your ongoing support. Very best wishes, Nick Waldron Headteacher It's difficult to do Christmas presentations when we can't mix 'bubbles', or sing, or have an audience! As an alternative, each class has prepared a quick, Christmassy video...
In any other year, we would decorate our halls, corridors and classrooms and all our parents and viisors would see how the festive season is being celebrated at school. This year, of course, is not any other year! We didn't want out parents to miss out so we brought some displays outside! If you missed the chance to see the boards, here they are... Here are our children helping out at home to raise money for the Harrow Food Bank. They're washing up, looking after siblings, dusting, cleaning, clearing leaves and much more! Remember to send your pictures to [email protected] ![]() For Harvest this year we are undertaking a 'Help Out to Help Out'. We aren’t able to hold our usual Harvest gatherings this year so we’ve come up with a scheme whereby we can still celebrate Harvest and help others. We want all our children to ‘Help Out’ at home in return for a donation to the Harrow Food Bank. Traditionally in rural locations the entire community would be involved in the gathering of the harvest - everyone helping out - and a share of the harvest would support those families who need it. We're doing the modern day version by doing our 'Help Out to Help Out'! Please talk to your child about how they might help out at home – washing up, washing the car, sorting, tidying, preparing meals – and agree an amount of money you will donate in return for a good job done! Jobs can be done any time over the next week or so (half term is a great opportunity!) Once everything is complete, please donate your money using the following ‘Just Giving’ link. After half term, we’ll make sure all the money goes directly to the Food Bank. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/pinnerparkharvest?utm_term=mEayy8KBY It would also be fabulous if you could take a photograph of your child doing their jobs so that we can share them with the community through a video on Pinner Park Online. Please send any photos to [email protected] Harrow has moved to the High Alert Level for Covid-19 (also known as ‘Tier 2’). Cases of Covid continue to rise rapidly across London, as well as in Harrow, so we all need to play our part in controlling the virus and keeping each other safe.
The move to Tier 2 now means more restrictions around social distancing in London and Harrow to control the spread and save lives: we must not meet socially with friends and family indoors in any setting unless we live with them or have formed a support bubble with them. This includes private homes, and any other indoor venues such as pubs and restaurants. Please remember the guidelines we have in place for parents to reduce the risk of transmission. Please follow this checklist as closely as possible.
