We’re being supported by Ground Control to invite nature into the school grounds. This is all part of our effort to ensure children learn about biodiversity and sustainability. You may remember that last year all of our children took part in The Big Dig. This has kick-started a year round approach to learning which has included a collaboration with the Bumblebee Trust, participation in Climate Week, undertaking RSPB's birdwatch, and our participation in 30 Days Wild (see article in this newsletter). The story of our recent collaboration with Ground Control and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust is told in this video. Click to watch the video. Through our partnership with Ground Control and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, we managed to secure a small number of tickets to the Chelsea Flower Show. On Monday, four very lucky students were accompanied by Mr English and Mrs Jenkins to attend the show. Monday was press day for the show and the show was not open to the general public. There were plenty of famous celebrities in attendance! The four children were selected from those children in Years 4 and 5 who entered a competition to demonstrate how they were helping our local biodiversity to thrive. We want to thank everyone who entered the competition - the standard of entries showed the commitment of children and families to protect wildlife and the planet. Have a look through the photos and see if you can spot the celebrities (including a royal princess). We celebrated the Coronation of King Charles III with a special day in school. Some of us dressed as kings and queens, and some of us dressed in red, white and blue. There were a range of coronation themed activities and we all learned a little more about the role of the monarch, the traditions of the coronation service, and much more. We learned a song especially written for the coronation, 'Our King' 👑 Poetry by Heart - School wide celebration of poetry
We're celebrating World Poetry Day by launching this year's school-wide Poetry event! Each child is asked to choose a poem, learn it by heart, and perform it out loud! Children will perform their poem in class after the Easter holiday. Two children from each class will be selected to go through to a year group 'semi-final'. From that group, two children will be selected to go through to perform their poems in assembly (and video recorded for our website). To view the collection of poems click here. There are a good range of poems - something for all ages and abilities. We're asking the children to be aspirational and ambitious in their choice! In honour of World Book Day 2023, we asked our children and families to recreate book covers. They didn't disappoint! Here are a selection of the wonderful recreations. We love reading at Pinner Park and World Book Day is a great day to celebrate! A group of our Year 6 children had the opportunity to visit the Civic Centre today, at the Mayor's invitation, to see the Council Chamber and the Mayor's Parlour. This was a wonderful opportunity to hear all about civic life and to understand the workings of local government. Our thanks to the Mayor for her invitation and for her time. If your child features in any of these pictures and you would prefer them not to. Please contact us through the school office and we will remove it immediately and without question.
