Poetry by Heart - School wide celebration of poetry
We're celebrating World Poetry Day by launching this year's school-wide Poetry event! Each child is asked to choose a poem, learn it by heart, and perform it out loud! Children will perform their poem in class after the Easter holiday. Two children from each class will be selected to go through to a year group 'semi-final'. From that group, two children will be selected to go through to perform their poems in assembly (and video recorded for our website). To view the collection of poems click here. There are a good range of poems - something for all ages and abilities. We're asking the children to be aspirational and ambitious in their choice!

In honour of World Book Day 2023, we asked our children and families to recreate book covers. They didn't disappoint! Here are a selection of the wonderful recreations. We love reading at Pinner Park and World Book Day is a great day to celebrate! A group of our Year 6 children had the opportunity to visit the Civic Centre today, at the Mayor's invitation, to see the Council Chamber and the Mayor's Parlour. This was a wonderful opportunity to hear all about civic life and to understand the workings of local government. Our thanks to the Mayor for her invitation and for her time. Our Year 2 children take part in a wonderful music unit which take place over three half terms. The unit is taught by professional musicians from Harrow Music. The children learn the drumming style, songs, dances and rhythms of Ghana. This week, the two classes who have undertaken this unit during the first half of the year had their chance to perform to parents. It was a breath-taking performance . Amazing! Well done to our super musicians who performed for parents on Tuesday 7 February. Composite groups of guitar, woodwind, percussion, string and vocal performances wowed the gathered audience. The groups included some 'pop' bands, as well as the school orchestra and guitar ensembles. The children performed everything from Ode to Joy, to Seven Nation Army and much more! On Tuesday 24 January, a number of musicians from Pinner Park spent the day at Nower Hill School. They participated in orchestral workshops and then performed to parents and friends in the afternoon. We want to say a huge well done to those students. They are wonderful musicians and they also represented Pinner Park brilliantly. Thank you to Mrs Matty for planning the event for the children. The children competed superbly and also represented the school fantastically. Out of 14 schools, our Pinner Park team finished 4th overall. Well done team!
